“While living abroad, I was influenced by the aesthetics of vernacular culture of lived beauty, such as the patterned repetition of woven baskets, painted pottery or the concentric symmetry of rice paddies, the vibrancy of everyday life and flora, and the tropical light.” ~ Charulata Prasada

Artist Quote:
“I am a self-taught Indian-born artist. My art practice reflects a professional past focused on issues of equity, equality, and human rights in several developing countries. These multicultural experiences have informed my art thematically and aesthetically. Through my oil paintings, I explore notions of power and vulnerability. I am interested in elucidating human qualities as they coexist with strength and fragility in defiance of social order or stereotypes. My collages are about connection and draw upon aesthetic influences of my Indian heritage. Vernacular culture of lived beauty, such as the patterned repetition of woven baskets, decorated pottery, or the concentric symmetry of rice paddies, have been elemental to my practice, as have the vibrancy of tropical light, flora, and fauna, fabrics, and prints.”
